The Gate Keeper

This little guy was hanging out on the big gate that allows entrance to our pool. We have an open gate policy for swimming here...if you can open the gate you can swim. ("At your own risk" we add to keep the insurance people happy.) The gate is big enough that little kids can't readily open it even if it is unlocked. But my point is we have a gate keeper... who may or may not startle the unsuspecting visitor. Doesn't he look ferocious?

Of course the little guy is only an inch and a half long. He's not scaring away anyone. The best we can hope for is startle effect.

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Words by C. F. Alexander (1818-95)

Hi Betsy,
Isn't it great to be able to enjoy the small things of life, and to give praise to God who has created them. My example of praise is that a couple of weeks ago, I dug up all the clumps of ornamental grass that was choking out the other perrenials here at the church gardens. I was going to throw it out, but decided to plant it around the handicap signs in the parking lot. I never have success keeping things alive in that area. After a few days, it began to turn brown. I waited a few more days and it got increasingly worse, so I decided to cut it down to ground level. Just this past week, new vigorous growth has started shooting out of the roots. It is an illustration to me of the passage Pastor Cliff shares regularly in Galations 2:20 about dieing to yourself, so you can have life in Christ.
